President Obama signed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act on June 22, 2009. The act grants control of the tobacco industry to the FDA. Under the new law, the FDA can limit the amount of nicotine in cigarettes and tobacco companies will be prevented from using misleading labels like "light" and "low tar."
