Project Title:

Empowering Women through the Sojourner House Health Lifestyles Project

Description: This project was based at the Sojourner House, an agency which provides transitional housing to high-risk women. An evaluation component was instituted to an existing program, to assess changes in participants’ knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and feelings of self-efficacy. Key partners included AIDS Rochester, AHA, ACS, and Planned Parenthood.

Project Title: Smoke Alarms Save Lives!
Description: A partnership was created between Strong’s pediatric clinic (AC-6) and the Rochester Fire Department to have free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors supplied and installed to lower socioeconomic families.

Project Title: Assessing Barriers to Breastfeeding in Low-Income Obstetric Patients
Description: The objectives of this project were to survey health care providers and low-income obstetric patients at an academic hospital-based women’s clinic to assess awareness, interest, and barriers to breastfeeding among this low income population.

Household Toxic Exposure Prevention

Description: A health fair on household toxic exposure prevention was conducted in partnership with Strong’s poison control center and the Orchard Street Community Health Center for their families with children under 6 years of age. The fair was aimed at improving awareness and teaching safety techniques important for prevention of toxic exposures.

Project Title: Pediatric Obesity: Promoting Healthy Hearts to Children and Families in Rochester City Elementary Schools
Description: Project based on a need in the inner city community was for instruction and teaching of the parents and families of children at risk of obesity. The aims is to reach out to the children and families to encourage them to make healthy nutrition choices when cooking meals and buying snacks as well as promote active lifestyles for the whole family

Description: This project was a background assessment of Rochester radiology groups to see the role they may play in providing discounted services to the uninsured patients of UR Well and St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center.

Pediatric Obesity Promoting Healthy Hearts to Children and Families Rochester City Elementary Schools

Description: A Healthy Heart Booth was created for the open houses at five Rochester City elementary schools. The open houses allowed the medical students to reach both elementary school children and their parents.

Project Title: Small Business Opportunities for Women in Rural Honduras
Description: The primary goal of this project is to increase small business opportunities for women in rural Honduras and to collect baseline health data to measure the efficacy of the planned intervention.

Project Title: UR Well Smoking Cessation Program Evaluation
Description: For this project, an evaluation of this program was performed with both quantitative and qualitative data collection. Based on the results, several improvements were made to the current program and recommendations for possible future expansion of smoking cessation services were developed.

Project Title: Improving Children's and Adolescents' Health Through Free Sports Physical Exams
Description: Sustainable partnerships have developed over the years to help successfully perform free physical exams. While the project has received positive feedback, it is now important to evaluate if the program is indeed serving the intended target population.

Project Title: Evaluation of the Student Volunteer Experience at UR Well Student Outreach
Description: The purpose of this project was to design and implement an evaluation of the student volunteer experience at UR Well. The evaluation was designed with the input of the UR Well Steering Committee and Adrienne Morgan. Key Informant Interviews were completed and a Questionnaire was started.

Project Title: Creating an Electronic Signout System for UR Well and Analysis of the Signout Information
Description: To improve care at UR Well Student Outreach, a database was created to store information about patients’ visits. One year of data was converted and analyzed, with summary of results presented. Once the database is fully implemented, it can sustainably replace the paper sign-out procedure.
