Description:

Project helped to inform parents about fall prevention at the Injury Free Coalition for Kids free crib event. Information included handouts, home safety checklists, and memo boards with important phone numbers on them.

Project Title: Skiing and Helmet Use: An Intervention
Description: The population targeted in this study are skiers at a small community non-profit ski area in Vermont. The study design included researching the data available on helmet use, surveys to gather data, and to implement an intervention involving an informational poster and pamphlet to address the issue.

Project Title: Smoke Alarms Save Lives!
Description: A partnership was created between Strong’s pediatric clinic (AC-6) and the Rochester Fire Department to have free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors supplied and installed to lower socioeconomic families.

Project Title:

Safe Ride Rochester

Description: The goal of this project was to investigate the possibility of a Safe Ride program for the holiday season in Rochester. Partnerships were established with a number of local businesses and organizations who would likely support a similar effort in future years.

Project Title:

Strong Stories: A Healthy Rochester TV Initiative

Description: The aim is to create a TV program, medical student run-faculty supervised, that will utilize a popular media outlet in order to inform and educate through real patient stories. As a public health tool, the program will cover both current and pertinent health care topics/issues.

Project Title: Organization of Medical Students in a Disaster: An Untapped Resource in Emergency Preparedness
Description: Medical students attending the School of Medicine represent a skilled, willing resource to aid in a disaster, but are not included in the emergency plan of the affiliated hospital, Strong Memorial. This project aimed to pull together existing resources and leaders within the emergency preparedness plan to propose a system for student participation.

Project Title: Preventing Unintentional Injury
Description: Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity and age. There are simple safety precautions people can take to reduce their risk of such an injury. Targeted population were visitors of Healthy Home in Rochester, NY. The project involved implementing an intervention using informational poster and safety checklists to address the issue.
