- Critically assess a patient's "readiness to change", using a popular model of behavioral change called "The Stages Of Change".
- Learn strategies to help motivate patients to change their behavior.
- Follow national guideline recommendations for clinician-patient intervention, called "The 5-A Model": Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, and Arrange. This simple algorithm provides structure to a clinically effective, brief intervention.
